Photographers’ Rights: Photographing Outside Federal Buildings

“The next time you’re stopped by an authority figure for photographing a federally owned or federally leased building, just hand the law’s agent this declassified 2010 DHS directive that unambiguously states that photographing public buildings from a public place is legal, and that harassing people for doing this is illegal, and that asking photogs to delete or hand over their images or videos is also illegal.

The three-page bulletin reminds officers, agents and employees that, ‘absent reasonable suspicion or probable cause,’ they ‘must allow individuals to photograph the exterior of federally owned or leased facilities from publicly accessible spaces’ like streets, sidewalks, parks and plazas. Even when there seems to be reason to intercede and conduct a ‘field interview,’ the directive says:

Officers should not seize the camera or its contents, and must be cautious not to give such ‘orders’ to a photographer to erase the contents of a camera, as this constitutes a seizure or detention.”

Boycott Arizona to Save Nursing!

AZ Nurse Amanda Trujillo was not only disrespected for her routine patient education and advocacy, she was also fired and her license has been in limbo for a year now. Her education led a patient to seek information regarding hospice, at a potential cost to her employer (Banner Health) of hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue. The Board of Nursing considering Banner’s complaint against Amanda includes at least three members who work for Banner Health.

In response to this corruption and the attack on Nurses’ ability to advocate and educate patients free of retaliation, we have put up a Change.org petition to boycott Arizona until we see some BON changes – please check it out & help us spread the word, next Hearing is 3/19 and AZBON reauthorization is still in the Legislature – we’re running out of time on this unusually opportune time for positive change.
